Charly García

Carlos Alberto García Moreno was born on October 23, 1951, in Buenos Aires. A child prodigy who earned a classical piano professorship at age twelve, García transitioned to rock in the early 1970s with folk-rock duo Sui Generis alongside Nito Mestre, penning anthems of youth alienation like 'Canción para mi muerte' and 'Rasguña las piedras'.

During the brutal Argentine military dictatorship (1976–1983), García founded the supergroup Serú Girán. Labeled 'the Argentine Beatles', Serú Girán released subversive masterpieces such as 'Canción de Alicia en el país' and 'Viernes 3 AM', utilizing biting allegorical lyrics to denounce state terror, disappearances, and censorship without being silenced. With the return of democracy, García’s solo career exploded with seminal new wave and synth-rock albums like 'Yendo de la cama al living' (1982), 'Clics modernos' (1983), and 'Piano Bar' (1984).

Instantly recognizable by his bicolored mustache, flamboyant theatricality, and absolute musical brilliance, Charly García holds a revered status throughout the Spanish-speaking world as the supreme visionary who transformed rock into an authentic Latin American art form.
