World Town Planning Day, also known as World Urbanism Day, was initiated in 1949 by Professor Carlos Maria della Paolera of the University of Buenos Aires. Paolera designed a universal symbol for urbanism—a gold sun, blue air, and green earth emblem—symbolizing the balance between natural elements and human settlement. Supported by APA, RTPI, and ISOCARP, the day unites urban designers, landscape architects, and municipal leaders in over thirty nations to address climate resilience, mixed-use zoning, public transit, and equitable public park access.
