In early November 1941, during the climax of Operation Typhoon, Nazi Wehrmacht armies had advanced within 30 kilometers of the Moscow Kremlin. In an audacious act of psychological warfare and defiance, the Soviet leadership organized the traditional November 7 military parade across Red Square amidst falling snow. Commanded by General Pavel Artemyev, 28,400 troops, 846 tank crews, and cavalry units marched past Saint Basil's Cathedral, proceeding directly from the parade ground onto the freezing frontline trenches, shocking the world and galvanizing the successful counter-offensive that saved Moscow.
