Jail Killing Day is a solemn national day of mourning in Bangladesh on November 3, commemorating the 1975 assassination of the four foundational leaders of the 1971 Liberation War inside Dhaka Central Jail.
In the dark hours of November 3, 1975, following the August 15 assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, a cabal of rogue military officers entered Dhaka Central Jail and brutally executed the four national leaders who led the 1971 Mujibnagar Provisional Government: Acting President Syed Nazrul Islam, Prime Minister Tajuddin Ahmad, Minister Captain M. Mansur Ali, and Minister A.H.M. Qamaruzzaman. The four leaders chose martyrdom over compromising with the conspirators, leaving an immortal legacy of unshakeable patriotism.
