King Gustavus Adolphus (Gustav II Adolf) reigned from 1611 until his death on November 6, 1632 (Old Style) at the Battle of Lützen during the Thirty Years' War. Renowned as the "Father of Modern Warfare" for pioneering combined-arms doctrine and mobile field artillery, he transformed Sweden into a dominant European great power. In the 1850s, Gothenburg and Stockholm bakers introduced the Gustav Adolfsbakelse (pastry with the king's profile), turning the solemn anniversary into a cherished culinary and civic heritage tradition.
