Umesh Yadav

Umesh Yadav was born on October 25, 1987, in Nagpur, Maharashtra, to a humble coal miner's family. Rising against immense economic odds, Yadav only started bowling with a genuine leather cricket ball at the age of twenty after narrowly missing out on recruitment into the police force. His raw athletic ability, exceptional shoulder speed, and natural hostility instantly made waves in Vidarbha cricket, earning him a rapid call-up to first-class cricket and subsequently the national side.

Making his Test debut against the West Indies in November 2011, Yadav became the first player from Vidarbha to play Test cricket for India. Over the next decade, under Virat Kohli’s leadership, he developed into one of the most lethal home-condition fast bowlers in cricket history. When subcontinental pitches offered little bounce or seam, Yadav utilized reverse swing with pinpoint accuracy at 90 mph, boasting one of the best strike rates among modern pacers on Asian soil.

In white-ball cricket, Yadav played a heroic role in India's campaign at the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, finishing as India's leading wicket-taker (and the tournament's third highest) with 18 wickets at an average of 17.83. In the Indian Premier League, he won the championship with Kolkata Knight Riders (2014) and claimed over 130 IPL wickets. In October 2018 against West Indies in Hyderabad, he achieved career-best Test match figures of 10 for 133.
