Born in Lagos State on November 3, 1984, Toke Makinwa attended the University of Lagos, graduating with a degree in English and literature. After tragically losing both her parents in a fire accident at age eight, she demonstrated extraordinary personal resilience. Makinwa skyrocketed to national prominence as co-host of The Morning Drive on Rhythm 93.7 FM, followed by hosting major television productions including Trending on Hip TV, Moments on EbonyLife TV, and Gulder Ultimate Search. In 2012, she launched her hugely popular YouTube vlog series Toke Moments, establishing herself as a pioneering African digital lifestyle creator. In 2016, she released her candid memoir On Becoming, which became an international bestseller across Africa, the UK, and North America. As the founder of luxury brand Toke Makinwa Luxury and host of The Toke Moments Podcast, she continues to champion women’s financial independence, media innovation, and self-reinvention.
