Tilda Swinton

Born in London on November 5, 1960, into an ancient Anglo-Scottish aristocratic military family, Tilda Swinton studied social and political sciences at New Hall, Cambridge, graduating in 1983. Her artistic journey began with the Royal Shakespeare Company before she embarked on a transformative decade-long creative collaboration with avant-garde filmmaker Derek Jarman, starring in groundbreaking works such as Caravaggio (1986), The Last of England (1987), and Edward II (1991), for which she won the Volpi Cup for Best Actress at Venice.

In 1992, Swinton achieved global critical acclaim for her gender-bending, time-transcending performance in Sally Potter's adaptation of Virginia Woolf's Orlando. Fluidly moving between auteur cinema and Hollywood spectacles, she brought mesmerizing depth to the White Witch in The Chronicles of Narnia, corporate attorney Karen Crowder in Tony Gilroy's Michael Clayton (earning the 2007 Academy Award), the anguished mother in We Need to Talk About Kevin (2011), and recurring iconic roles with Wes Anderson, Bong Joon-ho, and Jim Jarmusch.

Recognized with the Venice International Film Festival Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement and the BFI Fellowship, Swinton is renowned as one of contemporary cinema's most daring chameleons, rejecting aesthetic convention in favor of radical artistic courage, durational performance art (such as The Maybe), and cinematic conservation.
