Shantanu Biswas

Shantanu Biswas was born on October 25, 1954, in the port city of Chittagong. Growing up in the vibrant cultural heart of southern Bengal, he developed an early mastery of scriptwriting, directing, and melodic composition. Holding a degree in mechanical engineering and rising to senior executive leadership in corporate life, Biswas simultaneously committed his creative soul to the stage.

In 1975, Biswas founded the acclaimed theater ensemble 'Angan', directing and staging original plays that addressed the philosophical disorientation of post-liberation Bangladesh, the corrosion of democratic values, and the sublime power of human empathy. Celebrated works like 'Kalo Golap', 'Bhabok', 'Manush', 'Julius Caesarr Shesh Saat Din', and 'Antoranga Koutuk' garnered widespread praise at national theater festivals in Dhaka and Kolkata.

Parallel to drama, Biswas was a prolific composer and lyricist of modern Bengali songs ('Adhunik Gaan'), releasing multiple solo and collaborative albums including 'Jolchobi', 'Chithi', and 'Dure Kothao'. He passed away in Dhaka on July 12, 2019, leaving behind a rich legacy of theatrical and musical innovation.
