Robert Trujillo

Robert Trujillo was born on October 23, 1964, in Santa Monica, California, of Mexican heritage. Immersed in jazz fusion, funk, and flamenco alongside Motown classics during his youth, Trujillo developed extraordinary fingerstyle dexterity, eschewing a bass pick for rhythmic slaps, flamenco plucks, and thunderous harmonic depth.

Trujillo rose to international prominence in 1989 joining crossover thrash pioneers Suicidal Tendencies and co-founding the funk metal powerhouse Infectious Grooves with frontman Mike Muir. Throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s, he laid down the low-end groove as bassist for heavy metal prince Ozzy Osbourne, playing legendary worldwide festival tours and co-writing albums like 'Down to Earth'.

In 2003, following a historic audition chronicled in the acclaimed documentary 'Some Kind of Monster', Trujillo was selected as the bassist for Metallica. Over the past two decades, he has performed on Grammy-winning multi-platinum albums including 'Death Magnetic' (2008), 'Hardwired... to Self-Destruct' (2016), and '72 Seasons' (2023). In 2009, Trujillo was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame alongside his bandmates.
