Martin Castrogiovanni

Martín Leandro Castrogiovanni was born on October 21, 1981, in Paraná, Entre Ríos Province, Argentina. Developing his rugby apprenticeship with Club Atlético Estudiantes in Paraná, his imposing physical power and scrummaging mastery prompted a move to Italy in 2001 to join Calvisano, qualifying for the Italian national team through his Sicilian ancestry.

Debuting for Italy in 2002 against the All Blacks, Castrogiovanni became the bedrock of the 'Azzurri' scrum for over a decade. Instantly recognizable by his flowing wild mane of hair, beard, and ferocious intensity, he was crowned Six Nations Player of the Championship in 2006. In club rugby, Castrogiovanni spent seven glorious seasons with the Leicester Tigers (2006–2013), winning four English Premiership titles and being voted the Premiership Player of the Year in 2007.

He later joined French powerhouse Toulon, capturing the European Rugby Champions Cup (Heineken Cup) in 2014 and the French Top 14 championship. Castrogiovanni represented Italy at four consecutive Rugby World Cups (2003, 2007, 2011, 2015), becoming one of only three Italian players in history to surpass 100 international Test caps (finishing with 119 caps). Following his retirement in 2016, Castrogiovanni transitioned into a beloved Italian television presenter, co-hosting the hit talent show 'Tú sí que vales'.
