Lindsey Vonn

Lindsey Caroline Vonn (née Kildow) is an American alpine skiing legend, Olympic champion, and global sports icon who shattered competitive barriers to become the most successful female downhill skier in World Cup history. Born on October 18, 1984, in St. Paul, Minnesota, Vonn was on skis at the age of two under the guidance of her father and grandfather. Recognizing her generational talent, her family relocated to Vail, Colorado, where she joined the U.S. Ski Team development program at fourteen, making her World Cup debut at just sixteen in 2000.

Vonn revolutionized women\'s speed events with an aggressive, aerodynamically flawless downhill style that was faster and bolder than any before her. At the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, she became the first American woman in history to win the Olympic Gold Medal in downhill, also claiming a bronze in the super-G. Over her historic nineteen-year international career, Vonn captured four World Cup overall championships (2008, 2009, 2010, 2012)—a feat matched by only one other woman in ski racing history—and eight World Cup season titles in downhill.

Throughout her career, Vonn became a global symbol of athletic courage, overcoming catastrophic knee ligament tears, shattered bones, and severe concussions to repeatedly return to the top of the podium. When she retired after claiming a bronze medal at the 2019 World Championships in Åre, Sweden, she had amassed an astonishing eighty-two World Cup victories—a record that stood as the all-time women\'s benchmark for years. Beyond the slopes, Vonn established the Lindsey Vonn Foundation to empower young girls through education, athletics, and self-belief.
