Anthony Kiedis was born on November 1, 1962, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and moved to Los Angeles at age eleven to live with his father. At Fairfax High School, Kiedis bonded with bassist Flea (Michael Balzary) and guitarist Hillel Slovak, forming the Red Hot Chili Peppers in 1983.
With his kinetic stage presence, rapid-fire rhythmic rapping, and melodic baritone vocals, Kiedis steered the band through personal tragedy and musical evolution. Their 1991 magnum opus 'Blood Sugar Sex Magik' featured the epochal hits 'Under the Bridge' and 'Give It Away', propelling the Chili Peppers to global alternative rock supremacy.
Subsequent multi-platinum albums like 'Californication' (1999), 'By the Way' (2002), and 'Stadium Arcadium' (2006) solidified their status as one of the most enduring bands in rock history. In 2004, Kiedis published his bestselling autobiography 'Scar Tissue', and in 2012, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
